What You Can Do

How to make childbirth safer worldwide?
If you would like to donate money, I suggest supporting these organizations:

Malawi Bridge Project
Your donations to the Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s bridge project are appreciated.
We are rehabilitating and building bridges in rural parts of Malawi where emergency vehicles currently cannot pass during the rainy season.
For Healthcare Professionals
If you are a healthcare professional, it can be tempting to want to “jump in and help.” I encourage you to do that, but first carefully evaluate your options based on the time commitment you have.
If you have a month and you are an obstetrician/gynecologist: Find where you can assist in labor monitoring, teaching indicated and safe assisted and cesarean deliveries.
If you have a year and plan to have more time available in the future and you are an OB/GYN, a general surgeon, or a urologist: Consider training in obstetric fistula surgical repair to help repair the backlog of women with fistulas. Join a center where there are other surgeons to provide follow-up for your patients.

For the non-medical community
Even if you are not a healthcare professional, you can help by:
- Supporting communities keeping girls in school,
- Building infrastructures like roads and bridges, and
- Spreading the word.
Obstetric Fistula should be a condition of the past - everywhere.
